My Seven Steps – Fresh Air

19. December 2022

There is nothing like fresh air that keeps you energized and relaxed. Make it a habit to go for a walk in the morning or after dinner, and just breathe and listen to the birds!

If you are spending most of the time inside your air conditioned home or work space, you are forcing your body to use stale air. This means, it’s much more difficult for your body to stay energized and healthy.

Fresh air every day helps you, clear your head, gives oxygen to your cells, and fills you with new energy.

Go outside at least 30 minutes every day, regardless of the temperature!

Remember: it’s not the weather, it’s what you wear that matters!

Go for a walk, jog, run, bike ride, use your rollerblades, or what ever comes to mind. That also takes care of the exercise for the day 🙂

Some of the health benefits of fresh air are:

Good digestion

Fresh air increases the oxygen flow to your cells. This improves both the cell function, circulation, and helps you to digest your food more effectively.

If you are sitting a lot during your work day, more blood is directed to the brain. This may disrupt the digestion of food, and cause discomfort and indigestion.
Try go for a good walk outside after you eat.

Makes you happier

The fresh air you inhale, will help increase the oxygen in your blood. This means you get more oxygen to your brain, which then releases more serotonin.
Serotonin is your feel-good hormone, which lighten your mood, promote happiness and well-being.
Fresh air will also helps increase your energy levels and clarity, as well as leave you refreshed and relaxed.

Strengthens your immune system

Every single cell in your body needs oxygen to do the metabolic process necessary to sustain life.
Again, the more fresh air, the more oxygen to the body. Oxygen helps the white blood cells fight and eliminate harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites and toxins.

Also the immune system are not able to maintain the inflammatory immune responses to keep the body protected without enough fresh oxygen.

Cleans your lungs

Indoor air, air conditioner air, or air in a highly-populated area is often a combination of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen.

This gives your lungs a hard time filtering out all the waste to provide you with sufficient amounts of oxygen.

Fresh air means more oxygen to your lungs. This helps your lungs by dilating the blood vessels, and cause the lungs to expand even more.

The result is, you exhale you release airborne toxins from your body, and leave you with more energy.

Keeps your mind sharper

Fresh air helps you think better.

More oxygen in your system, means more oxygen to your brain. This improves your concentration and clarity. Your brain uses about 20% of your body’s  total oxygen!

One of my favorite benefits of going outside for a walk is, how refreshed and full of energy and determination of getting stuff done when once I’m back home.
It is also a great way to clear your head, come up with ideas or solve a problem.

If the sun is shining while you’re outside, you might even get some much needed Vitamin-D!

Grounding

Grounding, or earthing, is a powerful technique which will help you reconnect to the earth.

You might think I have lost it, but bare with me! Think about your electrical appliances, they are all grounded through the outlets. Same goes for us; we need to be grounded too.

Grounding allows the negatively charged antioxidants (ions) from the Earth to enter the body and neutralize positively charged free radicals (ions) in your body. This means, grounding every day will help your body return to a neutral stat.

Due to our modern lifestyle, our bodies build up a lot of free radicals and toxins, (positive ions), which over time can cause imbalances and diseases such as feeling our of sorts, stressed, have anxiety, fatigue, depression or pain, and western medicine can’t seem to find the real cause.

When you are grounded you will feel centered, less stressed, balanced, strong and less tense
You can also experience pain relief, better sleep and circulation.

If you are new to grounding, start by going outside on the grass barefoot. Start with 10 minutes and work your way up to 30 minutes a day.

Sit, stand or walk on soil, grass, sand or concrete, as these surfaces are all conductive, which means your body can draw the Earth’s energy. Vinyl, wood and asphalt are not conductive, so won’t benefit you.

If you want to take it a step further, you can get Earthing shoes. I love the ones from Harmony 783.

You can also get indoor options like floor and chair mats, bed pads, chairs and body bands, which can be used at work, at home or while sleeping.
